Closing the Gap in Central Florida
Among the firm’s most recent outstanding projects is the Wekiva Parkway Section 8 Interchange, which completed the final missing link in central Florida’s metro beltway. This new segment creates a continuous, limited-access connection between the region's major expressways, significantly enhancing mobility in the area. Delivered through a design-build partnership, with DRMP leading design and The Lane Construction Corporation leading construction, the $274.5 million project employed innovative solutions to resolve complex engineering and construction challenges within a tightly constrained corridor.
The project included 2.63 miles of new limited-access toll roadway and 20 new bridges. Designs outlined the reconstruction of I-4 to accommodate future improvements such as intelligent transportation systems, all-electronic tolling, and extensive roadway, drainage, lighting, signage, and traffic control improvements. The team implemented design and construction strategies to improve efficiency, reduce impact to existing infrastructure, and generate approximately $75 million in cost savings for the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) while maintaining quality, performance, schedule, and budget.
