Inspection On Hand

pa2400.jpg (3723 bytes)Inspection On Hand (IOH) is a system for the automated collection of bridge inspection information. IOH simplifies the data gathering process by guiding inspectors through Pontis inspections. (Pontis is a component of AASHTO's AASHTOWare/BRIDGEWare suite of products.)

All of the condition rating information is entered on a pen-based Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). The PDA's screen presents the inspector with an intuitive means of entering all pertinent data.

The PDA is small, light, rugged, and inexpensive; and it is easy to use by virtue of its graphical user interface that any inspector can master easily.

IOH is ideal for states that are converting to the Pontis Bridge Management System (BMS) because all of the information required for Pontis inspections is contained in the IOH software. No longer are inspectors required to bring cumbersome manuals into the field. An inspector can quickly reference condition state language, detailed element descriptions, or environment state language by tapping the stylus on the screen of the PDA.

IOH eliminates the need for key-punching hand-written data into a data management system or Pontis. Since the inspection process is paperless, the need for filing and managing paper forms from past inspections is eliminated.

Customers wishing to know more about the Windows CE platform are encouraged to check out Microsoft's site.
