Pebble (256KB) -
Jim Turley (aka RoadHazard) has released a public beta of his Pebble Beach
circuit, a real-life road course that hosted sports-car races in the 1950s. As
such, it's fairly narrow and slow for a 1967 F1 car, but hey, if I can manage
it, so can you!
Jim offers up a lot of background info on the track on his website, and it's an
entertaining, recommended read. Note that this track is also a 'beta' (same deal
as Jim, below), but other than being missing a few minor things (e.g. the
newspaper pic) this track is done to my eyes! Also, despite what Jim says
on his website, I think he did a bang-up job on the textures and scenery - the
place looks stunning, as befits such a high-rent district!

Jim (222KB) -
Mark Daniels (aka markBAR) has released a public beta of his latest and
greatest, Jim's Club Circuit (aka Neuvil Club Circuit), a short,
high-speed fantasy track. It is not to be confused with an earlier, unrelated Neuvil
GP track he was working on (and has apparently withdrawn).
I know, I keep saying "I don't do betas!" - but I'll make an exception
here, primarily because the track comes with a BAPOM program set already, and
I'm just announcing its availability! Note: you don't need to download this program set, as it is already included in the track
distribution.
That said, it's a very good track, with enjoyable 1-minute-flat(ish) laptimes. I
prefer short tracks; you get to practice the turns more frequently! The track is
pretty well finished, the 'beta' status primarily reflecting it's lack of a
track installer, and some planned texture updates. But there's no reason to wait
until then - grab it now!

Ridge (279KB) -
Bill Cooper and TopLoader recently released RidgeHill, and while it's
taken us a good chunk of time to get around to it, well, better late than never.
The track (fantasy) is a blast to drive - insanely fast , with huge corners.
Some clever person described it as a Wipeout track for GPL, and that's as
fair a description as any!
Note that my cover is done in (sort of) a period style, whereas their original
cover pretends that it's a vintage GP being held in the current day. Given that
there's nothing about the track that feels '60s-ish, TopLoader's original cover
is arguably more appropriate. Personally, I'm driven by the newspaper page -
since it's hard-coded to 1967, I date my covers in 1967 to match. In any event -
even if you prefer the original cover for this track, you'll probably appreciate
my map pages...

Here's Something Different!
I recently completed an actual race (an exceedingly rare event), and noticed that the
newspaper pics I've been distributing with the BAPOM programs aren't quite right - they didn't have the
bottom shadow, and they weren't properly yellowed. You can imagine my embarassment!
(Click on the before and after pics to see what I'm talking about.)
Anyway this file (3.6MB) contains updated newspaper pics for all 106
program sets that we've released prior to 10/27/2001 (up to and including East London). It's a minor thing,
but that's all the more reason it should be done right!

7/18/2001 - #97 - #107: FULL PROGRAM SETS for the 11 Original GPL Tracks:
These sets feature the original, real-life covers used in the 1967 F1 season (with the exception of Rouen,
which is from 1968). The covers have been taken from scans of the originals, and reformatted, color corrected, cleaned
up, and in some cases largely re-created from scratch.
The map pages on many of the original GPL tracks are fairly inaccurate (see Spa, Watkins, Monza), and of course all of
these programs come with our particular brand of top-notch mapmaking 'foo'. Also, these program sets come with
replacement newspaper pictures, reflecting the many enhancements that have been made to the cars since GPL's release
three years ago.
Two Notes: Both Watkins Glen and the Nurburgring come with two covers, and you get to decide which one you want to
use. The 'real' Watkins cover is the sidewards version, though I prefer the vertically reformatted version.
The 'real' 1967 Nurburgring cover is that red-and-yellow thing, which I (personally) find garish and ugly. For my own
purposes, I prefer the 'blue' cover, which is a real-life Nurburgring cover from 1970, modified for our purposes.

| Hey, I'm a Lazy Bastard, and rather than
download them individually, how about a
single download that contains all 11 sets? (3MB)
